Marijke Braaksma was born in Leeuwarden in the Netherlands.

She became a psychiatric social worker.

Twenty years ago she studied painting at the Gooise Akademie in Laren, in the Netherlands. During that time she met her future husband David Tress, also an artist, with whom she now lives in Great Britain.

In 2006 and 2008 she had a one woman exhibition at Nant-y-Coy Gallery in Pembrokeshire, her next exhibition there will be in 2010.
